The Metro Steel USA legacy is one steeped in tradition, spanning three generations of ownership and a century of dedicated service to the great state of Florida. Our story began in 1914, when Charles Shepherd relocated to Leesburg, Florida, and laid the cornerstone of our family-owned business. In 1920, the foundation for what would eventually become Leesburg Welding was established under his skilled stewardship, with Charles personally overseeing the welding and machine shop’s daily operations. This commitment to craftsmanship and dedication continued unabated until Charles’ passing in 1952.
In a seamless transition, his son, affectionately known as “Bee” Shepherd II, assumed the mantle of leadership. In this role, he not only honored his father’s legacy but also expanded upon it, ensuring the continuity of the family business until his own passing in 2006.
Building upon this foundation, the next generation of leadership took shape as Charles “Chuck” Shepherd, son of Bee Shepherd II, founded Metro Steel and Pipe Supply, Inc. in 1974. Located adjacent to Leesburg Welding, this expansion marked a significant milestone in the history of our enterprise. With a 35,000-square-foot facility, Chuck established a steel warehouse and distribution business that catered to a diverse range of industries throughout central Florida. To enhance operational efficiency and meet the specific needs of our clientele, he invested in cutting-edge equipment for value-added processing of raw materials, including cutting, shearing, bending, and rolling of steel products.
As we fast forward to the present, the ownership of Metro Steel has been in the capable hands of Bryan Shepherd since 2001. Under his guidance, the company has experienced remarkable growth in both size and capabilities. The integration of advanced CNC technology, such as Laser, Plasma, Press Brakes, Machining, and more, has further expanded our ability to provide value-added processing solutions. Located in Tavares, Florida, Metro Steel USA now stands as a formidable presence with a sprawling 200,000-square-foot facility.
